Winter At Our Fixer Upper

Winters in Mokena are pretty standard for Illinois. December is pleasant. January starts to get cold with some snow. While February is fucking terrible!! Between the single digit temperatures and never ending snowfall, for being the shortest month in the year it always feels like the longest. Why did we move back to Illinois?!? 😂

Leading up to our first snow fall, Jason always talked about our driveway and clearing the snow off it. He thinks we need an ATV with a snow plow on the front. Where I think he is crazy and our snowblower would work just fine. Well let me tell you, with 3ft of snow that has fallen in a two week period and a long driveway our snowblower hasn’t been the easiest solution. Thank god for our neighbors. We have been so fortunate over the past 20 years to have amazing neighbors and our new ones have been wonderful as well. Here are two examples of how grateful we are for our newest neighbors.

While I am standing in my kitchen with my pajamas on and a tea in my hand, my thoughtful neighbors are making my honey do list quite short. Thank you!!! You have no idea how amazing this is.

I thought I would take some pretty winter photos of our property during this winter season. Here are a few.

Our morning view from our family room. It never gets old! Jason loves seeing the animal tracks in the snow while I love the thick snow sitting on the trees.

Frank is enjoying our backyard this winter. Here he is following one of his many trails up the steps in our backyard. He would stay out there all day long.

He is loving the snow and the cold doesn’t seem to bother him. He has zero fear of getting deep in the snow and making new paths where ever he goes.

Jadon is also enjoying our backyard this winter. He has been trying some winter sports out there.

Cross country skiing wasn’t as much fun as building a ski hill with a mini jump.

I don’t know who had more fun on this school/work snow day. Jason or Jadon and his friends. No one realized or cared that it was only 10 degrees out.

What are Leah and Liana doing this winter at our fixer upper? Endless photo shoots with their teenage friends. They are going to kill me when they see I was taking photos of them taking photos of themselves. I guess we will find out if they are reading my blog or lying to me. 😂

The icicles have just started to get long with the temperatures getting slightly warmer and the snow melting from the roof.

Jason’s barn is pretty much snowed in. Not too much going on in there these days.

As for our wood pile, I don’t think any of it is getting used this winter season.

Frank’s favorite bridge going from our house to his play area (aka the tennis courts).

We are loving our fixer upper this winter! The fires are daily and the views keep getting prettier.

Love ya, Lisa
